Haliyas move to SC for rehabilitation

KANCHANPUR, Jan 17: Haliyas of Kanchanpur and Dadeldhura districts have filed a writ at the Supreme Court seeking the court´s direction to the government for their rehabilitation.



According to Chairman of National Dalit Network (NDN), Ganesh BK, former Haliyas filed the case of public concern at the apex court with four-point demands, including rehabilitation of former Haliyas and alternative employment for them.



Haliyas are facing difficulty for sustenance as the government has not brought rehabilitation program targeting them.



In the writ, they have demanded that a law related to rehabilitation of Haliyas be enacted and implemented.



NDN chief BK; Law advisor of NDN Gambhir Singh Yair and freed Haliyas Dambar Tamata and Dhan Bahadur Luhar jointly field the writ.

The government had freed Haliya two years ago.
