As the School Management Committees under guthis are turning out to be a place for power play and corruption, the government has sought property details of schools run under guthis to check the misuse of the property of school.
The Department of Education (DoE) has directed all its offices in the five development regions to submit property details of guthi-run school amid growing complaints over the misuse of public school properties in various districts, according to Chet Nath Sharma, deputy director at the Health Nutrition and School Property Management Division at the DoE.
Since the guthis are losing their credibility, the government needs to step in to oversee the management of schools run by them, he added.
In the past, the schools run under guthis were well regulated. But most of the guthis are now in dire economic strait, which increases the chances of misuse of school property by the management committee.
The DoE sought the details after the Education Property Division of the Ministry of Education raised concern over the defalcation of public shcool property.
Several schools are currently under the scrutiny of Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority for misappropriation of properties.
