KATHMANDU, March 15: Former Chief of Nepal Police Hem Bahadur Gurung in his statement to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has denied allegations of his involvement in releasing payments to the supplier of armed personnel carriers (APCs) and other logistics procured for Nepali peace keepers deployed in Darfur, Sudan.

According to a CIAA source, Gurung claimed, “The procurement section deals with all the issues related to payments. But I was not informed about the matter and I was not involved in releasing the money.” [break]

CIAA´s investigation officers are grilling Gurung over his alleged involvement in the APC scam since Monday.

A source informed Republica that Gurung´s interrogation will conclude on Wednesday.

Two investigation teams -- one led by lawmaker Pradip Gyawali and another by home ministry officials -- had concluded that around Rs 300 million was embezzled while procuring the APCs.
