Govt to award U-19 women's cricket team

KATHMANDU, Feb 16:  The government has announced cash incentive of Rs 200,000 each to the members of the Nepali U-19 women´s cricket team that won the ACC U-19 Women´s Championship.



Minister for Physical Planning and Works Hridayesh Tripathi informed media persons about the decision after Thursday´s cabinet meeting.[break]



Nepali U-19 women´s team had lifted the title of ACC U-19 Women´s Championship on Friday defeating Thailand by six wickets in the final held in Kuwait.



"It is a huge honor for me and all of my teammates as we all are from middle-class families," said Nepali captain Rubina Chhetri. "This award recognizes our achievement and inspires financially deprived players to seek a career in cricket," she added.



All 14 members of the team and coach Nabin Singh will receive the cash award.



The government had awarded all the members of the then U-19 women´s team with Rs 100,000 each after they won the second edition of the championship in 2010.
