Govt invites Chhetri-Brahamin-Thakuri-Dalit Samaj for talks

KATHMANDU, May 9: The government has invited the Joint Struggle Committee formed by various ethnic groups for talks saying it was serious towards addressing their concerns and urged the agitating groups to withdraw their plan for general strikes.



Issuing a statement on Wednesday, Minister Barshaman Pun called the Joint Struggle Committee for talks. [break]



The Committee formed by various ethnic groups including Chhetri, Brhamin, Thakuri and Dashnami has called general strike for Thursday and Friday. Also, some organizations such as Discrimination Free Progressive Society, Dalit Jagaran Sewa Sangh and Federation of Nepal Pichhadabarga have joined the protests.



"The government is seriously concerned over your protests. We urge for withdrawal of the general strike which will seriously affect the daily lives of the general people," said Pun´s statement. He has called on the Struggle Committee to form a five-member talks team and to come to the ministry of peace and reconstruction at Singha Durbar.
