Talking to Republica, NSP Chairperson Sarita Giri said, “We have torched a copy of the deal between FDF and HLPC as it is against the interests of Madhesi people and has ignored the demand for constituency delineation on the basis of population.” [break]
She maintained that allocation of 58 percent seats under proportional representation is unacceptable and that Madhes should get a minimum of 121 seats.
She further claimed that the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) would not be inclusive, as there would be lower representation from Madhes.
“Seats should be equally distributed for PR and First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) electoral systems,” Giri said, adding that only such an arrangement would guarantee an inclusive CA. Giri also accused Madhesi People´s Right Forum-Nepal and National Madhes Socialist Party of being agents of the UCPN (Maoist). “They (FDF) can compromise on Madhesi agendas for power,” she further alleged. “My health is deteriorating but I will continue my fast-unto-death until our demands are met,” she said.
She also said that HLPC should be dissolved as it has been taking a series of anti-Madhesi decisions. Giri is on hunger strike from Tuesday in the capital demanding a review of the number of election constituencies for the upcoming CA election.
Meanwhile, JP Gupta-led Tarai-Madhes National Campaign has also termed the deal a betrayal to the Madhes movement. “The six-point deal is not in the interest of Madhes,” said Gupta, adding that the deal is aimed at sidelining the marginalized communities.
“We are holding programs in various districts of the Tarai from Friday to expose the Madhes-based parties,” said Gupta.
