At a press conference, Gas Dealers Federation Nepal Chairman Bibendra Bhakta Pradhananga said the unsound reasoning made by the Nepal Gas Company and distributing gas cylinders from its premises encouraged black market trading at a time when the people have been reeling for long under the shortage by the blockade of transit routes – which has now been lifted. The Federation has also appealed to the distributors to purchase the gas cylinders provided from the company's premises in regular rate fixed by the government and not take it with additional price attached.
The current market price of a half-filled gas cylinder stands at Rs 700, but the traders are found to be selling it on random pricing system ranging from Rs 800 to Rs 900.
Pradhananga further spoke of a decision taken during the Federation's meetings in various government offices on supply and management of the cooking gas cylinders in which everyone agreed on delivering the gas to the dealers and retailers in adherence to the regular distribution system.
Federation's General Secretary Chandra Krishna Shrestha said the distribution method has gone out of track and thereby creating an environment motivating the black marketers.
He said the country needed 55 gas bullets a day with Kathmandu alone consuming cooking gas brought in 30 gas bullets. Shrestha added the situation would not ease anytime soon. RSS
