According to the District Public Health Office, Parvat, Kushma Bazaar has remained on a high alert after the flu virus detection. The virus has, however, spread to some VDCs due to movements of villagers back and forth between Kushma and their respective villages, it said.
The reported spread of swine flu to the villages has created panic among the people of Khurkot, Pang, Athar, Thulipokhari, Pakhapani and other VDCs.
Health workers have been working relentlessly to contain the spread of the disease. "The team of doctors from the Public Health Division has been conducting check up of patients of several VDCs and informing people about the disease," said team leader Dr Bishwa Kanta Khanal.
"The disease has already come under control in Kushma Bazaar. Thus, there is no need to panic," he said, adding that they were also taking stock of the situation in the neighboring villages as well.
ANNFSU meet put off
The district convention of All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU), the CPN-UML´s student wing, has been postponed due to the swine flu fears.
The conclave slated for Nov 13 and 14 has been rescheduled for the third week of November.
The District Health Office, Parvat, has called on all not to organize any public programs for one week. Acting on the health authority´s request, we have put off the convention, said Jeevan Uchhai, district coordinator of ANNFSU.
Schools shut in Baglung
In the wake of swine flu detection in the neighboring district of Parvat, private and community schools in Baglung have remained closed for the second consecutive day on Monday.
An all-party meeting had decided to close all schools on Sunday and Monday as a precaution against the flu. Following the diagnosis of swine flu virus among students in Parvat, all schools were closed in the district.
Though the H1N1 virus has not been found in Baglung yet, the District Public Health Office has stepped up efforts to prevent the entry of the disease.
