Fled inmate arrested from Sunauli border

POKHARA, Dec 22: Bindu Harijan, 45, an Indian national, who sneaked away from police custody duping sentry police was arrested at Sunauli, Nepal-India border, on Saturday afternoon, police said.



Harijan who was arrested on the charge of theft managed to run away on the pretext of taking bath on Thursday at Ward Police Office, Bagar in Pokhara. [break]



The District Police Office of Kaski had started an investigation into the alleged negligence on the part of the two suspended constables -- Bel Prasad Sharma and Gita Subedi. Harijan had allegedly stolen a gold necklace from Mina Kumari Gurung while traveling in a micro bus on December 9.



Harijan was sent to the Bagar police office as there is no women detention center elsewhere in Pokhara



“We usually don´t handcuff woman and children in custody.” said Spokesperson of District Police Office, Rabindra Poudel adding, “As she was not handcuffed, the sentry couldn´t differentiate if she was a criminal.”
