The one-and-a-half-hour drama was started around 6:30 pm over the Maoist seizure of a motorbike plying the street.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Ramesh Kharel, chief of Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu, said police used force to bring the situation under control after agitators started to attack police.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Metropoitan Police Circle Maharajgunj, the injured are being treated in Police Hospital. The injured included inspector Om Prakash Khanal, constable Krishna Tamang and constable Binod Adhikari, whio is reportedly in critical condition.
The clash continued for an hour at Gongabu while the agitators pelted stones and the cops responded with baton-charge and tear-gas.
The Maoists in their interviews to television channels after the incident claimed that they never attacked the police and blamed infiltrators.
"The Maoists later cooperated to quell the tension," said SP Kharel.
