The match was a just a matter of prestige for both Police and Yeedzin as they had already crashed out of the tournament following two consecutive defeats. [break]With the win Police remained in third position with three points in the four-team group.
On Wednesday, Bhola Silwal netted twice for the departmental team of Nepal, including an early opener and the last goal. Yogesh Shrestha and Parbat Pandey were also on target for Police, states the official website on Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
It turned out to be first victory for Police after group stage win over Abahani Limited of Bangladesh in 2008. Since defeating Abahani, Police played 11 matches and not won a single match.
Police had crashed out of the group stage finishing at the bottom of table without scoring single goal at the Dasharath Stadium in last edition. In 2009 as well Police had finished at the bottom of table at home ground without single win. In 2007 Police had finished runner up and a year later its run ended in the semifinal.
In the one sided match, Police took the driving seat in the second minute when Silwal tapped in Shrestha´s pass. Shrestha doubled the tally in the 37th minute utilizing a pass of Dilip Rai to finish first the half 2-0.
Parbat Pandey added another four minutes into second half utilizing a corner. Pandey had also scored against Dordoi through penalty in Police´s 5-1 defeat. Silwal wrapped up the match in the 71st minute with a brilliant display as he sprinted with the ball from the middle of the pitch, dribbled past two defenders and beat the goalie.
Yeedzin was defeated 8-0 by home team Phnom Penh and 11-2 by Dordoi in its previous matches. Police was defeated 5-1 by Dordoi of Kyrgyzstan and 1-0 by Phnom Penh.
In the day´s late match, Dordoi had a hard fought 1-0 win over Phnom Penh Crown FC to finish as the winner of group B. Baimatov Azamat converted a last gasp penalty to seal the victory for two time champion and maintain its cent percent winning record.
Both Dordoi and Phnom Penh had already qualified for the final round.
