Being hosted by Toronto Nepali Film Festival (TNFF), the festival will witness ten extraordinary films which promise to highlight the untold cultural, personal and historic narratives of Nepal, according to organizers. [break]
“Still immersed in age-old customs and traditions, Nepal is currently experiencing rapid changes catalyzed by the movements for democracy coupled with the bloody ten-year long Maoist insurgency. At this pivotal moment, the Nepalis are struggling toward a stable and peaceful society. By showcasing this timely program, TNFF intends to create an intercultural discourse by bringing diverse audiences under one roof,” TNFF statement reads.
The film festival will include documentaries, fiction and animation. Ten critically acclaimed selected films for the grand screening are Nabarsieko Jhari (A Silent Monsoon), A Stove, a Blouse and a Gun, Malamee (Funeral), Small Step, Sacrifice, Daughters of Everest, We Corner People, Bhedako Oon Jasto (In Search of a Song), Return to Nepal and The Sari Soldiers.
In a nutshell these movies together talk about disturbing practice of flesh trades in Nepal -- some cinemas will project why so many women in Nepal took up weapons and joined the so called “Maoists People´s War,” will raise animal rights issues, will disclose the inspiring story of first Sherpa women´s expedition to mount Everest and will also highlight Nepal´s rich cultural diversities.
