RUKUM, Dec 17: The CPN-UML has postponed its Rukum district convention scheduled for December 21 and 22 until further notice due to fear of untoward incidents amid increasing hostility with UCPN (Maoist), mainly after clashes between UML and Maoist cadres in Salyan and merciless attack on journalist Tika Bista.

"The event has been postponed in view of recent political circumstances even though all preparations for the program were completed," said Khemman Khadka, deputy coordinator of the organizing committee of the event. He said the event will be organized improvement in the situation in the district and the country as well.

UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal was scheduled to inaugurate the convention. The organizers had already completed graffiti and other publicity campaigns across the district.

"We had to postpone the event as the district is under a reign of terror mainly after the attack on journalist Bista by unidentified assailants and UML-Maoist clash in neighboring district Salyan," Khadka said.
