Assistant Chief District Officer of Udayapur Prem Prasad Luitel handed over the check to Yukesh´s father Ram Prasad amidst a function on Monday. Udayapur Cement Factory contributed Rs 500,000, the school Rs 200,000 and the rest was collected from guardians, according to chairman of school management committee Sanjaya Lal Karna.
Irate guardians had gathered at the school immediately as the news about death of the third grader spread across the town and set the school on fire. An all party meeting formed after three days of agitation and strike following the incident had decided to provide Rs 800,000 to the family.
General Manager of Udayapur Cement Factory Surendra Prasad Chaurasiya said the factory was forced to contribute the amount due to pressure from the administration, political parties and the school. “We don´t take the school income and therefore cannot be forced to compensate for the losses due to the school,” Chaurasiya argued. “But we have been forced to make the contribution as our management committee took a decision to that regard,” he added.
The school was established by the factory employees some 18 years ago as Odyssey Shikshya Samaj Sewa School and was later converted into a higher secondary school. The school, which as around 1,000 students, is being operated through a trust.
