Everest clean-up drive

SOLUKHUMBU, Feb 26: Eco-Everest Expedition would launch a campaign to clean up Mt Everest. Dawa Steven Sherpa, chairman of the organization, said they would collect the garbage piled up from the base camp to the peak.



He said the campaign will cost $150,000. Sherpa said everyone including climbers can collect the garbage up to the second base camp while a team of 10 Sherpas would collect the garbage from 6,000m above.



He said Rs 100 will be awarded to the collectors for every kg of garbage collected. Eco-Everest Expedition had collected the garbage from the Everest in 2008 and 2009 as well.
