Electricity stealers chase NEA staff away

BIRATNAGAR, May 9: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Staffers who had gone to remove hooks used for stealing electricity were chased away by people of a rural settlement in Morang.



Those who were using stolen electricity at there homes also vandalized the truck (Ko 1 Gha 34) in which the NEA staffers were traveling. [break]



Following NEA´s decision to check electricity theft, NEA staffers had reached Budhanagar village in the district to sever hooks attached to overhead wires for drawing electricity illegally.



Police arrested four people involved in attacking the NEA staffers and released them after making each of them pay a fine of Rs 8,375. Meanwhile, police, in a joint effort with NEA, arrested 15 people on Monday on the charge of stealing electricity.



According to NEA, there is widespread electricity theft in wards 6, 7, 15, 16, 18, 19 and 22 of Biratnagar.
