EC turns empty on Friday

KATHMANDU, Jan 10: With the term of Acting Chief Election Commissioner (EC) Dolakh Bahadur Gurung and Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav expiring today, the Election Commission will remain without commissioners from Friday.



Following the retirement of Gurung and Yadav, the constitutional body will be limited to just administrative works from Friday.[break]



"We are very sad for such a situation of the EC though we have repeatedly drawn attention of the head of the state and the head of the executive," said Gurung addressing a press meet at his office today prior to his departure.



When asked on possibility of conducting fresh elections in absence of commissioners, Gurung said, "It is impossible.´´



As per the Interim Constitution Article 128 (1), there should be a chief election commissioner and four commissioners in the EC.
