Disgruntled leaders quit parties over poll nominations

KATHMANDU, Oct 2: Various leaders have quit their parties after not being nominated as the candidate for the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) polls.



Taking strong exception to the final list of nominated candidates, district level leaders from the Muslim community have quit the Upendra Yadav-led Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Nepal (MPRF-N). The leaders have accused the party leadership of being biased toward the Muslim community. [break]



MPRF-N district committee secretary Meraj Khan, who quit the party, has announced to contest polls from constituency number 4 representing the Mahendra Prasad Yadav-led Tarai Madhes Sadbhavana Party (TMSP). “I have joined TMSP as MPRF-N did not propose any Muslim candidate for Kapilvastu district,” claimed Khan. “MPRF-N is fostering caste-based politics,” said Khan, adding that many district level leaders of MPRF-N have joined TMSP.



Meanwhile, after not being selected as candidate for constituency 2 from the Nepali Congress (NC), Athar Kamal, along with hundreds of his supporters, has vandalized the party´s district office in Kapilvastu.



NC has proposed Dip Kumar Upadhyay, Rajesh Acharya, Sudhakar Pandey, Surendra Acharya, and Birendra Kumar Kanaudiya for constituency 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, respectively.

Likewise, after not being selected as the candidate for constituency number 3 of Dang, Bharat Bahadur Neupane along with his supporters vandalized the party district office. NC leader Samir Ghimire has quit the party and announced to contest the polls as an independent candidate after not being nominated as NC candidate for constituency 7 of Dhanusha.



Similarly, in Dhankuta, NC Mahasmiti member Kamot Phago has announced to contest as an independent candidate from constituency 1 of the district.

Fifty-nine CPN (UML) leaders, including regional Chairman Bijendra Chaudhary, have resigned from the party over the party´s nomination of Bal Bir Chaudhary for constituency 5 of Bara district.



Another NC leader Bhakti Sitaula after not being selected as poll candidate from Jhapa has defected to Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N). “I will contest the polls from constituency 2 representing RPP-N,” said Sitaula.



In Tanahu, Purna Bahadur Gurung has padlocked the party district office after not being picked as candidate for constituency 2. The party has selected Vice President Ram Chandra Paudel as candidate for constituency 2 of Tanahu.



Likewise, MPRF-N leaders Ram Lagan Yadav and Birendra Yadav have defected to Raj Kishore Yadav-led MPRF-R after not being selected as candidates from Bara district.
