The holy seeds were sown at Kailash of Pashupatinath, Gaurighat, Aryaghat, Guheswori, Mrigasthali, Shlesmantak, and Kiranteswor around Pashupatinath.
Devotees coming from various places of the country have been thronging the Pashupati area from early morning today.
As per the Hindu mythology, one’s ancestors will have a place in heaven if such seeds are sown in the Pashupati area in the name of the deceased, and family happiness is ensured, said culture expert Dr. Bishnu Dahal.
Seeds of rice, barley, wheat, sesame, gram, maize, and kaguno are sown and lights lit in the name of the deceased in the previous whole night to mark the festival.
The Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) has managed security and tents with a view to facilitating the visitors arriving here.
Similarly, the PADT managed the facilities of lighting of lamps for the people, who arrived here from long distances but failed to light the lamps themselves, by charging Rs. 1,000.
