LALITPUR, Aug. 2: A large number of devotees have gathered at the Kubheshwar Temple here since the morning on Thursday on the occasion of the Hindu festival of Janai Purnima.

Thousands of devotees have fallen in line in front of the temple to pay homage to Kumbheshwar Mahadev. People from Kathmandu and adjoining districts have arrived here for the religious fair.[break]

A big religious fair takes place at the Kumbheshwar Temple on the occasion of the Janai Purnima festival every year. It is believed that the water from Gosinkunda, a holy place high up in the lap of the Himalayas in Rasuwa district to the north of Kathmandu Valley, sprouts here at Kumbheshwar.

There is a belief that one would get salvation if one visits and pays obeisance at the Kumbheshwar Temple on the occasion of Janai Purnima. A big religious fair also takes place at Gosainkunda on the same occasion today.
