"The assistance received will be used on priority trade sectors, mainly in identifying projects that will enable Nepal do away with existing infrastructure and supply-side related constrain”s," said Commerce Minister Rajendra Mahato.
To identify and update the country´s trade-related capacity, the government in support of Enhanced Trade Related Capacity Building Project (ENTREC) is presently developing Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF), which will list out country´s infrastructure and product development priorities and financial needs to develop them.
According to the procedures agreed upon so far, the country would need to seek assistance under Aid for Trade based on the EI“. "The National Implementation Unit will basically function as a cell coordinating with the dono”s," said Commerce Secretary Purushottam Ojha.
Talking to the mediapersons after returning from the 7th WTO Ministerial Conference in Geneva, Minister Mahato said Nepal, during the conference, demanded the developed members of WTO to implement aid for trade and duty-free quota-free (DFQF) facility that they have promised for least developed countries (LDCs) by 2010“
"We also urged the negotiators for early conclusion of Doha Round of negotiations that promises to make the global trading regime pro-poor, more development friendly and fair, pledging weaker economies level playing field for entering and competing in the international marke”s," said Mahato.
Among others, Nepal also voiced out for the timely implementation of trade facilitation measures, under which the developed countries have promised to help landlocked and smaller economies overcome trade constraints.
