BUTAWAL, May 5: Rupandehi District Administration Office has claimed that the disputed four dhur of land at Butwal-7, which is registered in the name of one Thaneshwor Thapa, belongs to the Department of Roads.

DAO has directed Nepalgunj municipality to scrap Thapa´s land ownership certificate, claiming the land was acquired by the government from Bir Bahadur Thapa, Thaneshwor´s father, in 2038 BS by paying the former due compensation. [break]

The land had been acquisitioned for construction of highway.

“After studying all the documents related to the land, we have concluded that the land mistakenly remains registered in the name of Bir Bahadur. So we have directed the municipality to scrap Bir Bahadur´s land ownership certificate,” said Chief District Officer Bal Krishna Panthi.

The DAO has also accused Thaneshwor Thapa of taking advantage of the administrative loopholes. Currently, the land is occupied by squatters. He had hired hooligans to drive the squatters out of the land. According to the locals, the hooligans hired by Thapa bulldozed nine houses on April 27.

Locals said Bir Bahadur had received compensation for his 1 kattha 2 dhur of land in 2038. The authorities had then written to Butwal municipality to annul Thapa´s land ownership certificate. However, four dhur of land had remained in his possession due to technical error.

Executive Officer at Butwal municipality Khim Bahadur Rayamajhi said they have already received instructions from DAO to scrap Thapa´s ownership of the land.
