The meeting comes a day after the NC president publicly said he would hold talks with Dahal and other leaders to end the impasse.
In the 30-minute secret meeting, Dahal requested Koirala to take a lead to drive the peace process to its logical end. "As you are for talks and consensus, you should make history by taking the peace process to its logical end," a source quoted Dahal as telling Koirala.
During the talks, Dahal stressed need of consensus among the political parties to take the peace process to its logical end and promulgate a new constitution on time. Dahal also thanked Koirala for his party´s decision to call the Maoists to quit the protests and end the deadlock through talks. The ongoing Mahasamiti meeting of Nepali Congress had passed a proposal in this regard on Sunday.
During the meeting, Koirala requested Dahal to agree on the formation of a high-level political mechanism and Dahal was positive about it.
After the parleys with Koirala, Dahal held a meeting with his party´s Senior Vice Chair Mohan Baidya, General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa and Foreign Department Chief Krishna Bahadur Mahara at party office at Parisdanda.
After the meeting, when asked why he met Koirala, Dahal only said, "How did you know (that I met Koirala)?" He rushed to his vehicle without making any further comments.
Baidya said he knew nothing about the meeting with Koirala. "How do I know whom he (Dahal) meets," he said, adding that the party leaders met at the office to assess the ongoing protests.
Koirala-Dahal meeting comes at a time when there are speculations that a new political equation for the formation of a new government are rife.
Let’s live in peace and embrace diversity
