KATHMANDU, June 24: Cyclist Nawang Dawa Sherpa was released on bail of Rs 50,000 on Wednesday from Central Jail, Sundhara. Nawang was arrested on May 27 after he stole a mountain bike from a shop in Thamel where he was employed.

Kathmandu District Court accepted his plea for release on bail. He said that he stole the mountain bike with the view to collect money to compete in a cycling competition in Thailand.
He failed to collect the required amount for travel and registration for the competition despite public appeal to provide him financial support. Social activist Sarita Gurung of Pokhara, Kaski, had initiated to collect amount for his bail.
