Concentrate on constitution writing: Nembwang to leaders

KATHMANDU, Feb. 20: Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subhas Chandra Nembwang has said that there is no alternative to forging a consensus by the political parties to draft the constitution.



Releasing a dummy constitution prepared by the National Forum against Caste Discrimination on Sunday in the capital, the CA Chairman urged the leaders to forge consensus on 80 different conflicting issues surfaced in constitution writing. [break]



Saying though the constitution drafting process was a complex and costly task; it should incorporate the issues of the indigenous communities including the secularism.



Nembwang said the parties should finalize the issues on name of the constitution, form of federalism, structures of judiciary, legislature and others on the basis of consensus.



On the occasion, Maoist politburo member Hisila Yami stressed on the need for guaranteeing the representation of all communities, religions and languages in the new constitution.



Likewise, Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak said the political parties should concentrate on drafting an inclusive type of constitution.



Different people speaking on the occasion said that the new constitution should ensure the demands of indigenous, dalits, Muslims and other suppressed groups.
