On the way to the British Council in Lazimpat, there’s a small eating hub called Cibo for sandwich lovers. Well, four years back, it might’ve been a sandwich joint; but now, Cibo has opened up to be for more than just sandwich lovers.

As soon as you enter the brightly sunlit eatery, the first thing that’s likely to catch your eye is the open kitchen and the three smiling faces of the staff there. There’s Gyan Dhimal who specializes in coffee, Rekha Khadga handling the service and maintenance, and Manoj Shrestha as the chef.[break]

Sagun Pradhan, the owner of Cibo, decides on the menu and frequently changes the specials after testing his recipe with his friends and leaves the service to his trusted trio. So Cibo’s menu is often shuffled, adding more dishes according to the availability of seasonal vegetables and spices.

Cibo, Italian for “food,” specially caters to breakfast and lunch crowds in and around the Lazimpat area. At a reasonable price of Rs. 300, you can relish an array of Continental breakfast completely worthy of your appetite.

Starting off with their Nepali-made coffee is definitely a fine choice. Cibo serves you the finest of coffee – from lattes to cappuccino to espresso, and all of them using fresh Nepali coffee beans.

As you settle down with your favorite coffee in the quiet ambiance, you can choose your breakfast items from the specials on the board, or just order off the menu that offers from waffles and pain du lait to more bounteous sandwiches and pastas. And you can rely on the team to bring you your orders at your table within 10-15 minutes.

The Cibo’s goat cheese pita sandwich is one specialty set to fulfill your cheese cravings without letting you feel too guilty later on. With just the right amount of cheese, complimented by sun-dried tomatoes, pesto and toasted walnuts, a bite on the pita bread with all the wonder in between is a lingering delight for your taste buds.

If you aren’t much of a fan of the tart flavor of goat cheese, their grilled summer vegetable sandwich is something you’ll love to munch on. The smoky flavor of the grilled aubergine, crougette and tomatoes somehow seeps into the oat brown bread that gives makes the meal so scrumptious. As healthy as it is, it’s hard to believe it tastes so good, too.

Their quiche is also how you would want your warm breakfast to taste. Soft and light with the goodness of grilled vegetables, it’s served with the Provencal sauce and side salad, the latter being a healthy serving of greens for the day.

And the best part for most sweet-tooth people is always the desserts. Cibo’s crepe nutella is a favorite out of many temptations, and this French snack as a dessert is a fortunate fix for the daytime.

Once you chew on the yummy thin crepes with syrupy chocolate-hazelnut sauce, you are sure to head on with your day, savoring the sweetness of the delightful taste you’ve had.

Cibo is soon branching out to Pulchowk in Patan by the end of March. It will be called Cibo Bistro.

Opening Hours: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm weekdays. For resevations, contact 4410727.
