KATHMANDU, June 30: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai said on Saturday that the Constituent Assembly could be reinstated provided political parties agree for it.

“The dissolved CA can be revived if that does good to the country,” PM Bhattarai said while talking to the media at his residence in Baluwatar. “But the revival of CA is not possible just because a party wants it.” [break]

The PM also said should the CA be revived, consideration should be taken not to commit contempt of the Supreme Court. “The reason for the restoration (of CA) should be duly justified,” he added.

He stressed on going for fresh CA mandate rather than reviving the dissolved constitution making body. “It is appropriate to promulgate the new constitution from a new CA after holding its elections on the set date.”

With CA dissolved on May 27 without delivering a new constitution, the government has announced fresh CA polls for November 22 later this year. Opposition parties, however, have shown reluctance to go for new polls.
