KATHMANDU, April 29: Boys Union Club climbed out of the relegation zone for the first time in the ongoing Martyrs Memorial San Miguel A Division League on Thursday defeating Ranipokhari Corner Team 2-0.

Boys Union progressed one spot ahead to 10th position with 15 points in the 12-team competition pushing behind the departmental team, Armed Police Force (APF), with 13 points to 11th position, the relegation zone playing equal 18 matches in the 22-round double league match. [break]

Another match of the day led by New Road Team (NRT) 2-0 against NIBL Friends Club was called off by referee Laba Khatri in the 37th minute owing to heavy rainfall and low visibility. NRT who had played a 2-2 stalemate in the first leg were leading by 2-0 before the match was halted. The remaining time of the match will be played on Friday.

Nirajan Rayamajhi had given a 25th minute lead to NRT who had missed their key striker Shayan Mosavi after he was booked with a second yellow card in their previous match against APF. Rayamajhi had scored in a one-on-one with goalie Song Sang Maharjan during a tussle. The ball entered the net in a rebounder off the goalie´s leg.

Jeevan Sinkeman added another two minutes later through a brilliant strike from the box in a pass of Laxman Ruchal.

If third placed NRT become successful in maintaining their lead on Friday, they will move up to second position with 38 points pushing Three Star with 35 points down to third position with equal four matches to play in the league.

Earlier, in a drab affair, Boys Union scored both the goals in the second half to avenge the defeat suffered in the first leg by the same goal margin.

Skipper Sagar Ghimire opened the scoring through a penalty in the 58th minute after RCT defender Bhim Darlami played a foul on Amar Limbu in the box.

Shekhar Limbu made a brilliant display to score the second goal for Boys Union, sprinting with the ball from their own box to the opponents´ box and played a one-to-one pass with Raju Rai ahead of the RCT box and beat goalie Dilip Chhetri to send the ball past the net.

RCT did not come up strong against the relegation battlers and made only a couple of attacks. In the first half, Amir Lama´s shot in Dipesh Thapa Magar´s cross went wide from the post. Likewise, Bhim Darlami´s 89th minute freekick was spectacularly dived and punched by custodian Binaya Shreshta from the cross bar to deny RCT from scoring.

Boys Union coach Kumar Katuwal said that they could be sure of avoiding relegation only if they won two more upcoming matches. Pleased with the victory, he said that his side capitalized on the scoring opportunities and thus won the match.

League matches called off

The remaining matches of the ongoing league have been called off by the organizer All Nepal Football Association citing technical reasons.

According to the organizing committee, the matches scheduled from Friday will begin after they issue another notice.

Among 132 matches of the double league, 26 matches are yet to be conducted.
