POKHARA, April 24: Amid dispute and allegation, the sixth general convention of All Nepal Women Association (ANWA), a sister wing of CPN-UML, on Tuesday unanimously chose Bidya Bhandari as its Chairperson.

This is the third consecutive appointment of Bhandari as the head of ANWA. She is also Vice-chairperson of CPN-UML. [break]

Another contender for the leadership Urmila Ayral, who is a politburo member, accused Bhandari of ill-treating and barring her from participating in the general convention.

She further accused Bhandari of not holding the general convention as per democratic norms and values. Aryal stated that she will file complaint against Bhandari at the party central office.

However, Bhandari accused Aryal of breaching discipline of the organization and showing bad manner at the venue of the general convention.

Aryal was barred from entering the venue while four other representatives, who had arrived there along with Aryal from Pyuthan district, were allowed to participate in the convention.

Supporters of Bhandari barred Aryal from participating in the convention saying that she was not a representative. They argued that Aryal should represent Parsa district instead of Pyuthan. They also allegedly ill-treated Aryal when she tried to enter the venue.

Aryal accused alternative politburo member Khagraj Adhikari of supporting Bhandari for the general convention. “It happened as per grand design of Khagraj Adhikari,” Aryal added.
