The festival is going to be organized from the end of March to the end of April and will consist of tournament between 25 registered teams with five players in each team. The festival is being promoted with a campaign under the Nepal Tourism Year 2011. [break]
Talking to myrepublica.com, Raman Nepali, the facilitator of the Shangri-La Cricket Academy and this event says, "This is the first time we are organizing this kind of festival in Nepal. I am sure that the youths and the staff members from various organizations, corporations, film stars and agencies will get an opportunity to have great fun. They will also have the privilege to interact with professionals from different fields informally and enrich their experiences."
However, this event is not limited to only these participants; domestic and international tourists will also be involved in some ways.
The festival is composed of three events played on different weekends. Each event of the Beach Cricket Festival covers a period of two days and one night.
The first event is Nepal Ice Beach Cricket Festival, which will be held on March 26-27. Twenty-five registered teams will take part in it.
The second event will be Indo-Nepal Beach Cricket Festival on April 9-10.
The third and final event is called Third Inter Bank Beach Cricket Festival that will take place on April 16-17.
"I am very excited to be the Goodwill Ambassador for Beach Cricket Festival. This is one of a kind and a creative event. I am sure during this, the youths will get an opportunity to both enjoy and learn," says Namrata Shrestha, a model and actress.
The matches in the tournament will be played with five overs a side and with special soft balls to eliminate injury. Apart from the fun-filled and friendly matches, the festival will also include Caribbean Pool Party, Interactive Games and Live DJ Music.
When asked to tell the difference about the beach cricket, Manoj Baishya, cricketer said, "Unlike other cricket tournaments, we encourage women participation in the matches. For this, we have made special rules for women players. Whatever runs they score will be doubled."
