For the campaign, the DTPO has set up help desks at two different locations -- Nepalgunj buspark and Jamunaha border -- in the district. The help desks are responsible for raising awareness among vehicle drivers, passengers and locals about road safety measures, according to DTPO, Banke.Vehicles plying to and from the district during the festivals are being strictly monitored, as per the traffic police officials.
"We have started this campaign to minimize road mishaps," DTPO chief Ganesh Mahato told Republica. He further said that road accidents are usual in the festivals of Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.
"However, the campaign launched by the DTPO will be useful in preventing accidents to a great extent," Mahato added.
He informed that pamphlets with awareness messages for road safety are being distributed to the people including drivers. Some of the messages are "Never travel on the vehicle roofs, use helmets, never use mobile phones while driving, never drive drunk, and strictly follow traffic rules".
The traffic helpdesks established in the district help rescue the stranded passengers and support them for easy travel. The checking of the vehicles has been made tougher so that the drivers cannot drive while drunk, they cannot overload passengers than the capacity, and they cannot violate traffic rules, informed the DTPO, Banke.
The DTPO Banke has joined hands with Nepal Police to actively implement road safety campaign during the festive season.
