RAUTAHAT, Feb 11: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) senior leader and Jhapa-5 House of Representatives (HoR) polls candidate Balendra Shah, popularly known as Balen, visited Sarlahi-4 on Wednesday—the constituency of Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Thapa.
Initially, Shah had no plans to visit Sarlahi-4, but following a request from RSP candidate Amresh Kumar Singh, he decided to tour the area.
Oli Vs Balen turns Jhapa 5 into election 'epicenter'
Shah is crisscrossing the country to boost his campaign and rally public support. On Wednesday morning, he traveled from Lalbandi in Sarlahi to Malangwa via Nawalpur and then along the Hulaki Highway to reach Sarlahi-4.
Singh, the RSP candidate from Sarlahi-4, had earlier made headlines in Janakpur by threatening to self-immolate if Balen did not become prime minister.
The road show comes amid a tightly contested race between Gagan Thapa and Singh. Thousands of Shah’s supporters gathered in areas including Godaita, Hirapur, Barhathwa, Nayaroad, and Bagmati, waving RSP flags and holding flower garlands to catch a glimpse of the leader.
Shah is expected to complete road shows across all four Sarlahi constituencies on the same day before heading to Chandranigahpur in Rautahat-4 via the Bagmati stretch of the East-West Highway.
In a distinctive style, Shah waved to supporters from his vehicle during the rallies without delivering any public speeches.
