The leaders from the radical camp led by Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya distributed a list of 21 points among the CA members on Wednesday to be included in the new constitution.[break]
Few days back, the political front led by hardliner CP Gajurel had decided to distribute the contents that should be incorporated into the new constitution. Political leaders from the faction also submitted the list to all the district administration office Wednesday.
"The new constitution should institutionalize the achievements of the revolution and give constitutional guarantee to protect the rights of the people. If real issues are not incorporated into the constitution, we will continue our struggles for a people´s constitution," said CP Gajurel.
Addressing a gathering in Baneshwor, he said his faction was only for defending the national sovereignty and framing a people´s constitution. Lawmakers Shiv Raj Gautam and Santoshi BK also addressed the mass.
Accusing the party establishment of betraying the revolutiion, the Baidya faction has formed a political front to push for a ´pro-people´ constitution and ´safeguard the national sovereignty´. The faction has threatened revolt, if their demands were not met.
Scrap anti-national hydro-project: Baidya
Senior Vice-chairman of the UCPN (Maoist) Mohan Baidya on Wednesday terming the Upper Karnali project “anti-national” demanded that the agreement for construction of the project either be reviewed or scrapped. He argued that all the "unequal agreements" on water resources should be scrapped.
"Why should the government prioritize the mega projects in favor of the Indian expansionism? We should build small hydro power plants," he said addressing a program organized by Karnali Watershed Conservation Society at Kathmandu.
Baidya, who leads the hardliners in the party, stated that the project was signed by "bypassing the parliament" and violating the norms of democracy. He also criticized leaders from his own party for signing such "unequal agreements".
