KATHMANDU, Jan 22: Seven Indian policemen, including two sub-inspectors, were arrested in Kanchanpur on Thursday midnight for intruding Nepali territory with arms. However, all those arrested were released on Friday afternoon.

"Seven Indian policemen posted in Uttar Pradesh of India were arrested for entering Nepal with arms illegally, " Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kanchanpur Buddhi Bahadur Khadka said. [break]

The arrested had reportedly urged the CDO that they had entered Nepal unknowingly while trying to nab the leader of a motorcycle-stealing racket.

Nepal´s law does not allow any foreign security personnel to enter the territory without prior permission.

Though incidents of Indian security personnel entering Nepal with arms have been reported in the past, they have rarely been arrested.

Khadka said the Home Ministry in Kathmandu and concerned Indian police officials have been informed about the incident.
