Several donor agencies have expressed concerned over the safety of their staff. Donor agencies such as Global Fund, Unicef and DfID have been deploying dozens of staff to assist with health related projects.
The agitating employees have demanded withdrawal of the transfer decision, which they allege was not taked in a fair manner. The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) had transferred 597 health workers at various health centers across the country during the festival of Tihar.
"We will continue our protest until our demand is met," said Ramji Ghimire, chief of Nepal Health Professionals Association. He said the employees union will be compelled to bring in a stern protest program if the authorities at MoHP do not heed their demand.
The agitating health trade unions include Nepal Health Workers Union, Nepal Health Professionals Association, Nepal Health Technicians Association and All Nepal Progressive Health Workers Association, among others.
