80 pc turnout in NBA election

KATHMANDU, Jan 9: The election to choose a new leadership in Nepal Bar Association was held on Saturday. According to Ram Prasad Shrestha, who is the chief election officer, over 80 percent eligible voters cast their votes in the election.



Out of total 6,899 voters, 5921 were cast at 34 polling stations across the country. In Kathmandu polling station alone, a total of 3,133 voters out of 3,844 eligible voters cast their votes.



The NBA election committee said vote counting will begin Monday. A total of 54 candidates have contested the election for 17 positions including the president of the NBA.



Ram Nath Mainali, Prem Bahadur Khadka, Matrika Prasad Niraula, Hari Krishna Karki, Ram Kumar Yadav and Madanmohan Chaudhari have contested for the post of president.
