Public prosecutors have accused Gupta and his accomplices -- Akash Lama, Jit Bahadur Gole, Amir Acharya, Kishor Pandey and Arzoo Subba alias Bishnu Laksam (Feudin), of abducting Sanghai on December 20 last year and holding him hostage for 20 days in Kavre district. Gupta has also been accused of taking 8.5 million rupees in ransom from the relatives of Sanghai. [break]
The public prosecutors have sought the court´s order asking Gupta and other accused to return the ransom, provide compensation to the businessman and seven to 17-year term along with a fine of Rs 50,000 - Rs 200,000 to the accused.
Administration chief of the Kathmandu District Court Bharat Lamsal said the court will start a hearing on whether to grant bail to the accused from Friday. If the court denies the bail, the accused will have to remain in judicial custody till the court passes its final verdict.
A special squad of Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) arrested Sadbhawana Party (Anandi Devi) lawmaker Gupta from his residence at Bank Road, Siddharthanagar Municipality-5, Bhairahawa on January 17.
Meanwhile, police officials investigating the case said Gupta has also been suspected of illegally running a manpower agency. Police said Gupta has been found of collecting Rs 1.6 million each from more than 15 people promising to send them to the US for employment. Officials claimed he paid them Rs 3.1 million after collecting ransom from Sanghai´s family.
