When cats bark!

Branding and rebranding the essence of being human has been the daily task of my mind. Sometimes I wonder, rather than being living beings, have we subtly changed our stand of being non-living beings, skillfully packaged to be displayed in the department store shelves for sale!

Everywhere I go, I tend to see people who stand tall in their own superficiality of our mere ignorance. [break]

They are more concerned about their table manners, or more precisely, develop a suicidal tendency if they see a breaking bulge in their stomach. A tummy is worth the tension and all psycho-social pressure that hovers in the world.

But amidst all these artificial subordinates that we call our own, there in some corner of the country a small girl of three is raped and brutally murdered. But our superficial minds which hang in the predominated era of “Who is the perfect narcissist?” stands blind in their own petty ignorance that feeds on their ego. For them, these incidents are not misfortunes but are daily newspaper stories that are bound to shock people without any lasting conclusion.

“Do you know she’s dating this rich guy? The shoes are worth seven grands! I think being a virgin is more like being gay. We’re in an open relationship and we’re in the experimenting phase! I cheated on you because you provoked me”

I don’t know why I feel a blot of disgust when I hear these very words being spoken in such meticulous volume; just brags about life and pulling stunts of humorous statements! Where does that land you?

Dwell on the questions again and recall whether you have at some precise time of your life spoken the same generic tune. But think again. Does these mere sniggering statements make any difference in your life?

My cousin spent 30 minutes on the phone elaborating the fact that she spent 500 Rupees to watch a movie. The movie hall with its state of art structure treated you with a royal touch. With five hundred Rupees sniffed under the nose, you’ll be given a royal couch to see and enjoy the movie. But recalling my cousin’s excitement of the super treatment she got, I couldn’t help but ponder upon the fact that our mind functions through a materialistic remote, hypnotized by a sprinkled superficiality which we often mistake with the human component of contentment.

Months back, a much circulated magazine which claims to be the taste of every youth, flaunted a heartrending display of write ups that brought to light the superficiality of commercial beauty. I nodded and agreed with the writers that beauty is not the trait of being human but it was humility that defined a person the best.

I was so engrossed in the magazine but my eyes also fell on a box-shaped announcement that clearly stated that “wannabe interested cover models” for the magazine should be beautiful and should have a strong aroma of attitude, poise and confidence.

I read the announcement with rage and wondered whether it was pure coincidence or a contrast in disguise which slaughtered the glory of the meaningful write ups that had beautifully engrossed the principle of being natural.

But I derived my own conclusion out of it, as the magazine made me realize that that humility and emotional appeal in today’s commercial world also wore a veil of superficiality, as the greatest challenge today was not the task of keeping in touch with the changing society but the real challenge is to stay human!
