In a political paper presented at politburo meeting on Tuesday, UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said the party should not accept the leadership of the ultra-leftist force, which is bent on seizing state powers and imposing totalitarianism in the country. "Only a leader who is fully committed to democratic system is acceptable to the UML," said politburo member Mahendra Bahadur Pandey.[break]
UML´s stance comes at a time when UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is making overtures to form Maoist-led government once again. The UML, which has termed the Maoist party as ultra-leftist force, has already decided to support Nepali Congress for leading the new government.
Tuesday´s meeting was also attended by K P Sharma Oli, who returned home Sunday after receiving treatment in New Delhi, India. UML dissident leader Ram Chandra Jha was also present at the meeting after a six month gap.
