Two more die of cold wave, toll reaches nine

SARLAHI, Dec 29: An intense cold wave sweeping the Tarai has claimed two more lives in Mahotari on Saturday taking the death toll from cold wave to nine.



An elderly Jal Devi Sanyasi, 82, of Siswakatiya VDC-4 and Suraj Sada, 2, of Manara VDC- 6 succumbed to the biting cold, said Superintendent of Police Pawan Kharel. As the cold wave continues to intensify, Bhor Nepal, an NGO, distributed clothes to around 400 families of Mushahar community in Babargunj VDC of Sarlahi.[break]



Similarly, the District Administration Office, Mahottari has also made campfire arrangements in several parts of Jaleshwar. The District Administration Office has requested people, especially the elderly and children, to stay indoors in the morning and evening hours.



Meanwhile, cold wave has killed six people in Saptari over the last seven days. Likewise, many children and elderly have taken ill due to excessive cold in the many parts of Tarai.
