According to District Police Office Chief DSP Dhiraj Pratap Singh, District Vice-president of ANNISU-R Prasun Karki and member Rajkumar Khadka were arrested while they carrying out extortion on the Araniko Highway´s Lamosanghu-Jiri section by stopping vehicles.[break]
Police found receipts that testified the duo had collected up to Rs 5,000 from tourists as "donation" for ANNISU-R´s 18th National Unity Conference to be held from December 10 to 14 in Kathmandu.
Singh said police have returned Rs 10,000 collected by the duo from US citizens.
Maoist District Committee Deputy Secretary Bishal Khadka claimed the party cadres had not collected any donation from the tourists. He said the amount was donated voluntarily by the representatives of travel agencies for the conference as per the mutual understanding reached earlier.
Man arrested with red panda skin
KATHMANDU, Oct 25: A man was arrested with red panda skin from Buddha Park, Swayambhu on Monday.
According to a press statement issued by Wildlife Conservation Nepal, Pema Tamang, 22, of Syabru, Rasuwa was arrested by police while trying to sell three skins at a total price of Rs 115,000 after a tip-off.
Tamang is now in custody of Metropolitan Police Crime Division at Hanumandhoka.
