SPORTS BRIEFS: NOC to hold consultations for hosting 12th SAG

KATHMANDU, Dec 20: Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC), recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has decided to start consultation with the concerned authorities over the possibility of hosting 12th South Asian Games (SAG) in Nepal. NOC General Secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha issued a press statement after the executive committee meeting on Thursday and informed that the meeting has decided to start consultations on the issue.



NOC has claimed that other National Olympic Committees of the region are requesting Nepal to come forward to host the regional mega sporting event. Earlier, India was scheduled to host the 12th SAG in 2013. [break]



Police beats Army in women´s football



DHANGADHI
: Nepal Police Club edged past Nepal Army Club 1-0 on Thursday in the First Women´s National Football League being held in Dhangadhi, Kailali. Niru Thapa scored the lone goal of the match in the 29th minute. In another match, Far-western Region edged past Eastern Region 3-1. Niraj Sunwar, Amrita Jaisi and Hema Chaudhary were on target for the winning side on 7th, 44th and 78th minute respectively. Samrachana Pradhan pulled one back for Eastern Region in the 58th minute.



KC gets DFB coaching certificate



KATHMANDU
: Kishor KC, the former coach of women´s national team and head coach of A division outfit Jawalakhel Youth Club, has passed the International DFB Coaching Course (B Level) held in Hennef Germany from April 23 to May 11. The coaching course was held by Germany FA. First Secretary of German Embassy Henning Hasen handed over the coaching certificate to KC on Thrusday. Coaches of 28 different countries had participated in the course.



Maharjan, Bhattarai share lead



KATHMANDU
: Prem Krishna Maharjan and Chudamani Bhattarai share the lead after the completion of the third round in the Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament organized by Richmond International College on Thursday. Maharjan and Bhattarai have three points each. Maharjan defeated Krishna Maharjan in the second round and Krishna Thapa in the third, while Bhattarai beat Buddha Shakya in the second round and veteran Ganesh Man Duwal in the third. Former Nepal champion Nabin Tandukar, Herakaji Maharjan, Bikash Kuluju, Rajendra Bajracharya and Himal Lama share the third position with 2.5 points each. The tournament being held under the Swiss League format will conclude after the seventh round.



Host Namuna reaches final



KATHMANDU
: The A team of the host Namuna English School reached the junior boys´ final of the Ninth Valley-wide Inter School Namuna Running Shield Volleyball Tournament. Namuna A defeated its own B team 18-25, 25-13, 25-6 in the semifinal played at hosts´ court in Luvu, Lalitpur on Thursday. Namuna will take on Ananta School in the final of the junior section.
