KATHMANDU: Armed Police Force (APF) Club defeated defending champion Nepal Police Club (NPC) 17-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-23 on Thursday to move to the top of the points table in the Eighth Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup TVS Women´s Double League Volleyball Tournament. With the win, APF ended NPC´s eight-match winning streak. APF has 23 points while NPC slumped to the second position with 21 points.
Meanwhile, New Diamond Academy registered victories against Dhulabari Higher Secondary School and Kavre District Volleyball Association on Thursday. New Diamond beat Dhulabari 25-13, 25-17, 25-6 and edged past Kavre 25-14, 25-12, 25-13. [break]
Meanwhile, Fishtail Academy, Pokhara thrashed Dhading District Volleyball Association 25-3, 25-8, 25-4 and Angels Heart beat Dhulabari 25-9, 25-5, 25-7. Fishtail is in the third position with 18 points while New Diamond lies in the fourth position with 16 points. Altogether nine teams have participated in the round robin league and seven qualified for the second round on Thursday. Dhading and Dhulabari crashed out from the first round of the tournament, which completed on Thursday.
Prime, NASA in final
KATHMANDU: Host Prime and NASA entered the final of girls´ section in the 10th Prime Cup Inter-college Basketball Tournament on Thursday. Prime received walkover from Bern Hardt College in the round robin league on Thursday to top the points table and NASA remained in the second position to set up a final clash. In the boys´ section, Prime, Trinity, Xavier International and defending champion National Campus reached the semifinals. Prime thrashed LRI 47-26 while Trinity defeated Bagmati 45-32. Likewise, Xavier International edged past GoldenGate 69-59 while National beat Morgan 76-55. Rakesh Shrestha scored 28 points for National.
Nat´l Kabaddi Championship in mid-Jan
KATHMANDU: All Nepal Kabaddi Association (ANKA), recognized by the National Sports Council, is organizing the 18th Men´s and 13th Women´s National Kabaddi Championship from January 11 to 13 in Kathmandu. ANKA organized a press conference on Thursday and informed that eight teams would participate in the championship. ANKA President Lal Kumar Lama said that a team each from five development regions as well as Nepal Police, Nepal Army and University team are to participate in the championship.
Host to meet LA in final
KATHMANDU: Defending champion and host St Xavier´s School, Godawari defeated Nepal APF School 3-0 in the semifinal of the 17th Father Moran Memorial Invitational Inter-school Football Tournament on Thursday. Rupesh Yadav, Mausam Shrestha and Rajesh Jimi scored a goal each for the winning team. The host will take on Little Angels´ (LA) in the final on Saturday. LA defeated St Xavier´s School, Jawalakhel 5-4 in the sudden death on Thursday.
Thapa wins chess title
KATHMANDU: Krishna Thapa of Makawanpur won the title of the professional section in the Professional and Inter-school Chess Competition, jointly organized by Russian Center of Science and Culture, Ambition Academy and Karapov Chess Club to mark the Constitution Day of Russia, on Thursday. Thapa scored eight points after a round robin league among 11 players while Keshav Shrestha finished second with equal points. Manish Hamal finished third. In the junior section, Milan Lama of Annapurna Higher Secondary School clinched the gold medal with five points from nine rounds held under the Swiss League System. Susan Gautam and Sanjay Shrestha of Greenland Academy finished second and third respectively among 33 participants.
Cosmic, Kotdevi in final
KATHMANDU: Defending champion Cosmic International Academy and Kotdevi Public School on Thursday entered the final of the Seventh FECA Cup Inter-school Football Tournament, organized by Fair Education Competitors Association (FECA). Cosmic defeated New Star Pole English School 2-1 in the semifinal while Kotdevi thrashed Gateway Academy 4-1 in the second semifinal. The final match will be played on Saturday.
