Condemning the murder, Nepali Congress parliamentary party has demanded that the culprits be brought to book at the earliest.
Similarly, CPN-UML and Nepal Sadbhawana Party said that they were saddened by the murder.
Minister for Information and Communication and government spokesperson Shankar Pokharel said in a statement that the ministry is serious about the security of journalists and media entrepreneurs. It further said that efforts are underway to book the assailants.
Similarly, the UN human rights body has deplored the killing, saying that threats and violence directed at the media can jeopardize the rights to freedom of expression. It has also demanded that the perpetrators of the crime must be held fully accountable and the state must provide the necessary security for all journalists under threat.
“The protection of journalists is of paramount importance in a democratic society and both state and non-state actors must show full respect for press freedom and support a free and independent media,” Andrew Palmer, Officer-in-Charge of OHCHR-Nepal said in the statement.
Meanwhile, FNJ organized a sit-in in front of the Home Ministry, deploring the murder and weak law and order situation.
