Shrestha duo in final of APF badminton

KATHMANDU, March 4: Sujana Shrestha and Puja Shrestha cruised to the final of the Sixth Nationwide Krishna Mohan Memorial Open Badminton Tournament in the women´s doubles defeating Tulasi Gurung and Purna Gurung 21-3, 21-15 in straight sets on Thursday.



Likewise, Nangsala Devi Tamang and Shakuntala Nembang won their semifinal match against Sara Devi Tamang and Saraswati Shrestha 21-15, 21-15 to enter the final at the covered hall of the Armed Police Force (APF) Club, Halchowk. [break]



In the U-16 girls´ singles, Saraswati Budhathoki set up a final clash with Shiksha Shrestha after winning their respective semifinal matches. Meanwhile, Dipesh Dhami, Riyajuddin Yiajudani, Pravin Basnet and Irfan Ansari entered the semifinals of the U-16 boys´ singles.



In the quarterfinals of men´s singles, Indra Mahat defeated Ratnajit Tamang 18-21, 21-16, 25-23 while Sahadev Khadka, Bikash Shrestha and Ram Singh Chaudhary also qualified for the semifinals.



Likewise, Sara Devi Tamang, Sujana Shrestha, Nangsala Devi Tamang and Puja Shrestha won their respective matches in the quarterfinals of women´s singles to secure semifinal berths.



In the men´s doubles, the pairs of Nara Bahadur Gurung and Shambhu Shrestha, Bivek Shrestha and Ratnajit Tamang, Bimal Shrestha and Ram Rai, Sajan Kumar Tamrakar and Rajan Shiwakoti, Ram Singh Chaudhary and Navaraj Joshi, Bharat Shrestha and Surya Thapa, Sahadev Khadka and Kishor Rana, Indra Mahat and Bishal Pradhan advanced into the quarterfinals.



In the pre-quarterfinal matches of mixed doubles, the pairs of Puja Shrestha and Rajiv Dahal, Kabita Karki and Bimal Shrestha, Pankaj Chand and Bina Tulachan, Nangsala Devi Tamang and Bibek Shrestha, Indra Mahat and Samjhana Khaling, Ram Singh Chaudhary and Nary Thapa, Sujana Shrestha and Bishal Pradhan, Ratnajit Tamang and Sara Devi Tamang won their respective matches.
