An increasing number of patients have started visiting the hospital after it started 24-hour OPD, gynecological, and video X-ray services.
The hospital that was constructed by the government in 1983 at the cost of Rs 200 million had been closed for 25 years. Out of a total 12 buildings, four have already been collapsed due to the shutdown for a long time. It came into operation only last April after the government handed over the responsibility of running it to a non-government organization.
Until last April that was before the operation of the hospital, the district residents were forced to visit Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi and Kathmandu for treatment, said a local Khem Bhattarai.
Over 150 patients visit the hospital every day, said hospital chief Dr Jhapat Thapa. The government has decided to provide Rs 30 million annually in grant to the hospital, he informed. According to the hospital administration, there are 16 doctors. It is said that the hospital is providing services better than Mangalsen District Hospital´s.
