During the meeting held at the Presidential Palace, Sheetal Niwas, this morning, mainly they discussed about the arrest of Nepal Army (NA) Colonel Kumar Lama in Britain.
British police had arrested NA Colonel Lama on Thursday on the charge of his involvement in human rights violation during the armed conflict in Nepal.
Lama had reached Britain to meet his family members during holiday. He was assigned on a United Nations peacekeeping duty in south Sudan.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Bhattarai said that such types of incidents had occurred due to the lack of formation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in time by forging consensus among political parties.
During the meeting, they discussed on finalizing the issue of formation of the Commission by forging consensus among political parties so as not to allow such difficulties arising from other sides on the issue as the Commission as the commission will decide on whether or not incidents of human rights violation had occurred from the state side and rebel side during the conflict period, it is learnt.
Responding to journalists´ queries after the meeting, Prime Minister Bhattarai said that relations between him and the President have not become cold as is publicized. He added that initiatives would be taken for ending the current political and constitutional deadlock working together with the President and bringing the parties to consensus.
He said he briefed the Head of State about the efforts being made by the parties for ending the political stalemate and the latest political developments.
