Police nab 5 bike lifters

KATHMANDU, Dec 5: Five youths on Sunday who had seized one Ramkumar Shrestha´s motorbike from Old Baneshwar and later demanded Rs 100,000 in ransom over telephone were arrested along with the motorbike by the Metropolitan Police Crime Division with cooperation from Traffic Police on Tuesday.



According to police inspector Bhishma Humagain at the Crime Division, the arrested are Bikash Lama, 19, Milan Lama, 23, Raj Kumar Lama, 24, Raj Lama aka Kumar, 21, and Surya Tamang, 28 -- all from Kavre district.[break]



When Deepak Parajuli, a friend of Bikash Lama returned after an unsuccessful attempt at foreign employment, they planned to get the money back from the manpower agent named Roshan. Knowing that Roshan was a friend of Shrestha, they decided to take away the bike to get back Parajuli´s money, according to the police.



Police inspector Humagain said, “The five snatched the bike from Shrestha and threatened to kill him if he didn´t return the money.”



Police were able to recover the bike from Gatthaghar after the five were arrested from different places of Kathmandu. According to the police, those arrested have been detained at Hanuman Dhoka for prosecution.
