According to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the prime minister is scheduled to address the plenary meeting of the conference on June 20. [break]
He will preside over two high-level events to be hosted by Nepal during the conference -- one on ´LDCs and Rio+20, in collaboration with Turkey and Belgium and the UN office of the High Representative for the LDCs, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States and another event on Mountains and Rio+20 in cooperation with Peru and Switzerland on June 21.
The prime minister is scheduled to return Kathmandu on June 25 after attending the conference that marks the 20th anniversary of the UN Conference on Environment and Development.
As the current chair of the Global Coordinating Bureau of the LDCs, Nepal has been actively engaged in coordinating the position and interests of the LDCs in multilateral fora. Nepal had earlier organized an International Conference on Mountain Countries on Climate Change from April 5-6, 2012 in Kathmandu which adopted the Kathmandu Call for Action´ as its outcome document.
According to MoFA, the 21-member Nepali delegation will comprise Hisila Yami, Minister for Environment Keshav Man Shakya, National Planning Commission Vice-chairman Dipendra Bahadur Kshetry, secretaries from different ministries and senior officials from the foreign ministry and ministry of forest and soil conservation.
According to MoFA, a separate delegation led by Nepal´s Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Nepal to the UN in New York Gyan Chandra Acharya, which is participating in the Preparatory Meeting preceding the conference in Rio de Janerio, will join the prime minister´s delegation.
Other members of the delegation in the preparatory meeting include Nepal´s ambassador to Brazil PB Shah, Joint Secretary at MoFA Dipak Dhital, Joint Secretary at NPC Purushottam Ghimire and officials from Nepal´s permanent mission in New York and Embassy of Brasilia.
