Karki along with some other NSU activists had reached the municipality office to submit a tender bid. The deadline for the submission of the bid was 12 am Sunday. However, the group turned up at the office a few hours after the deadline. [break]
Karki and his friends insisted that the staffer register the bid and this led to a heated exchange and the group manhandled an engineer of the municipality. Police immediately intervened and detained the attackers.
“They attacked the engineer after they were disallowed from registering the bid,” said the chief of the municipality office Krishnahari Aryal.
Following the arrest, NSU students demonstrated outside the Narayanghat police station demanding Karki´s release.
“The police even arrested us for an hour while we were staging protest outside. It clearly showed their open atrocity,” said Vice chairman of the union Anil Adhikari. Karki is still in police custody.
